Fake chinese GT30F131, RJP30H2A under the microscope

In this blog I reported my experience with a chinese supplier. I came to the conclusion that both IGBT transistors were fake by measuring and visual inspection. Let's put them under the microscope!

First, the original RJP30H2A. Notice the extra notches to the left and right.

Now the fake. The notches are missing and the character font is different. Also, there are traces, which look as if the package has been sanded to remove the original marking and re-labeled.

The 30F131 original. Everything is crisp and precise.

The fake shows very strong signs of sanding and the labeling is sloppy and imprecise.

The 30F131 may look different, depending on the batch. The imprint "MX 18" and larger character size are actually valid, but the overall quality is just ridiculous.

For the images I have used the Andonstar A1. It is a decent device for its price.

  1. Hi Hermann,
    it's me again.

Some of the components (to fix TNPA 5330 board) arrived today.
As you described in your post, I took some pictures of them, comparing with their old (and original) respective.

    DAF30A https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B2Bix8JyAB_IcF9MdFlhOXc1R2s
    DG302 https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B2Bix8JyAB_IcS0wUWRmYm9HRHM
    RJP30H2A https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B2Bix8JyAB_IQkZ3ZTBDSjVaVG8

All of them seem to be fake, don't them?

What do you suggest? Will I run the risk of damaging other components using these ones?

I can replace, according to your (post http://alpengeist-tvrepair.blogspot.it/2017/03/replacement-of-discontinued-panasonic.html) DG302 and RJP30H2A with FDG4536.
But I haven't bought any valid substitute for DAF30A.

    1. I strongly recommend to not use those parts! You will have to fix everything again. They look similar to the fake ones I have. For the DAF30 use the STTH. It works flawlessly. The FGD are running fine in the devices I have fixed. They can replace all the transistors. I am pretty sure that the DG302 from the good source I mentioned can do the job, too. Still haven't tried it, though.

  2. Saw this here after my other post, and interesting to say that my fake 30F131 do have exactly the same batch and date code (078 1516) as yours, but different visual appearance, logo at different position and so.
Clearly not genuine, but I would not complain if the parameters would match. Very first check against unsoldered genuine part from the board showed the same gate opening voltage for both of them. So a reliable test is crucial to identify the good fake parts on the market, as there are enough PDPs available and waiting for repair.

    lg,
    Dieter
